Words from Dr. Curtis Longs, MD:

Pandemic!

Yes the Coronavirus/Covid-19 is getting all our attention.

For those in the fields of medicine and health care, the reality of forever being in the front lines is being evidenced throughout the world.

As a psychiatrist working with individuals within the community ranging from ages two to one-hundred and two I have seen disparities already existing in the treatment of mental illness. But it is my fear that particularly during this time, individuals with mental illness again become a more of an afterthought when it comes to healthcare delivery.

It is my hope that individuals throughout communities in the USA with mental illness and behavioral challenges do not become left behind during this global pandemic.

Indeed, disparities to health care for people with mental illness in the USA is spreading like this infectious disease we are all facing.
